Our Story
A 204-year-old farmhouse,
discovered deep in the snowy mountains.
Encountering the kominka
Deep in the snow-covered mountains,
we came across a kominka farmhouse built 204 years ago.
Once a beloved toy museum that
welcomed many visitors,
the house shows remarkably little of its long years.
We were captivated by its powerful beams,
hewn from trees that bent under the weight
of Okuhida’s mountain snows —
a testament to the beauty and strength of nature.
You can feel how carefully its previous owners
lived here and looked after it,
and we resolved to cherish this house
with the same love, for many years to come.
A Stay That Is Kind to People and the Planet
Onsen & Garden Nana runs on its own energy system, making full use of solar power, solar heat, residual heat from the hot spring, and wood from construction offcuts and forest thinning.
To keep food miles short, we use local ingredients whenever possible. We embrace fermentation to mature and preserve ingredients, and serve lunch by reservation only — all in pursuit of zero food waste.
We aim to be a comfortable presence — for our guests and for the environment alike.
